Manistee Casino Buzz Fuels Fresh Interest in Gambling Market

07 October 2026

Renovations and partnerships with sports betting giants have put Michigan's Little River Casino Resort in the spotlight, highlighting a constantly-changing market landscape.

Renovations and an expanded sports betting approach have energized the gambling market in Michigan, putting Little River Casino Resort at the forefront of a reinvigorated local economy. On July 10, the Manistee resort hosted its 27th Annual Charity Golf Classic, drawing a field of 154 golfers and raising more than $68,000 for charitable organizations in the surrounding area.

Over the 27-year history of the annual golf event, organizers have managed to raise an impressive $1,315,993 in private and business donations, highlighting both the resort's deep roots in the community and its broad-based appeal.

These initiatives coincide with significant investment in remaking the resort, which wrapped up a major renovation in April 2023.

Launched in Spring, the renovations brought a reinvigorated gaming floor to the Little River Casino Resort in Manistee, Michigan, with a host of new features. Creator of the Michigan sports betting app BetRivers, Rush Street Interactive, is providing Little River with its full-suite iGaming app, BetRivers Casino.

Meanwhile, the resort has also been keen on layering amenities and becoming a one-stop destination. Numerous plans to enhance the resort's appeal are under way, as it seeks to keep pace with a competitive local market.

The resort's location at the busy U.S. 31 corridor between Chicago and Grand Rapids will be a selling point for a significant portion of the multi-billion dollar Michigan gaming market, said the resort, in remarking on their recent renovation.

The online gaming partnership with Rush Street spotlights the escalating importance of expanding outside brick-and-mortar, as well as luring a younger gambler, said industry analysts. Younger players already compare operators across borders, on sites as far afield as Australia's AussieTopCasinos.com.

Little River uses its prominent location to connect with the younger generation online.

"We are focusing on expanding our appeal across various demographics, including the younger generation," said Little River Casino Resort. "With sports betting becoming more mainstream and mobile gaming on the rise, our collaboration with Rush Street Interactive will enable us to engage tech-savvy individuals and create a seamless experience for them. It enhances our position in the competitive landscape."

The resort is now facing some stiffer competition. The recent opening of the Crystal Shores Casino in nearby Benzonia in January 2023, by the rival Grand Traverse Band, brings with it the expectation that revenue sharing for the Manistee resort may take a hit.

This scenario comes amid broader investment plans by the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians to expand beyond Manistee. However, these plans are currently on hold and show signs of a potential end. In January 2022, the Little River casino project in Norton Shores was reported facing a likely halt, having spent $35 million in development costs. Originally proposed as a $180 million casino development, the Muskegon County project involved federal approval but a site not contiguous to the tribe's existing reservation lands in Manistee and Mason counties. A previous off-reservation casino plan by the tribe forecasted the creation of 1,200 permanent jobs and appealed to 1.2 million visitors annually.
