As you may have seen this week, we announced that GaymerX will be the last GaymerX for now. This decision was not made lightly, but one that was made after spending much time looking over numbers, and realizing that trying to create a mega-event of this size, and trying to grow it at the pace that we were trying to keep was becoming unsustainable.
One of the biggest issues has been the lack of sponsorship – we have had a very tough time finding sponsors for our events, at least ones who are willing to put money towards the event. We made the mistake of trying to grow super large betting that we’d be able to get this corporate sponsorship after the response to GaymerX1, but we failed to garner sponsorships on the level that could make GaymerX sustainable and something that could exist year to year. No matter what, we hope that we could help spark debate in the mainstream gaming world on issues like gender and sexual diversity in games and that the fight for creating a better world for queer geeks will live on until there is true equality.
After GaymerX2, along with our other projects that we’re doing at MidBoss HQ (distribution of Gaming in Color, Production of ROM) we’ll take a look at what makes sense and if theres a way to relaunch GaymerX in a way that proves affordable, it certainly isn’t out of the question.
For now though, we’re focused on making GaymerX2 the very best, most fun and greatest gaymer gathering ever. We can’t wait to see you this summer and show you a really awesome time along with your peers!
Tickets are still available on EventBrite if you haven’t gotten yours yet!
