You don’t have to compete in our contest to cosplay! We encourage gaymers to wear their costumes or favorite anime gear around the con. For everyone’s safety and enjoyment, please observe the following.

(Please note that these rules apply to ALL ATTENDEES of GX3, whether or not you are actually wearing a costume!)

Cosplayer Interaction Policy

  • Do not touch another person, or his/her costume, without permission. Uninvited hugging, grabbing, or roughhousing will not be tolerated. Repeat violators will be ejected from the convention.
  • Be respectful of others. No harassment, catcalling, verbal abuse, or stalking will be tolerated.
  • Do not block hallways or public areas while taking photos. If you are taking a photo, please move to one side of the hallway or go outside. This isn’t as important as the other rules, but c’mon.

Cosplay Weapons Policy

  • ALL weapons are subject to the GX3 weapons policy and must be inspected and peace-bonded by GX3 Security.Other props may be required to be inspected and peace-bonded by GX3 Security, at the discretion of GX3 staff.
  • Use caution when carrying or displaying large props. If you are seen wielding a large prop in a reckless or dangerous manner, your prop may be confiscated.

Costume Coverage Policy

  • Be mindful and accountable for your cosplay – we want this to feel like a welcoming and safe space for all gaymers! GX3 staff reserves the right to ask attendees to change or cover offensive clothing. Failure to comply will result in your badge being confiscated.
  • GX3 staff reserves the right to make final judgment calls on what is “offensive” and what is not. If staff feels that your costume is indecent or inappropriate in any way, you will be asked to change or cover it.
  • Appropriate footwear is required at all times. If your costume calls for bare feet, you may wear flip-flops or ballet slippers, but the soles of your feet should not come in contact with the floor.

Prohibited Materials

  • Inflammable materials such as candles, fireworks, sparklers, liquid fuels, or other fire hazards are strictly prohibited. Small personal smoking paraphernalia (cigarettes, lighter, etc.) may be carried, but may NOT be used in indoor public convention areas as per local law.
  • Your costume should not shed. Please avoid loose materials such as sand, glitter, confetti, flower petals or other items that are designed to fall, scatter or otherwise separate from your costume. We want to be welcomed back for next year!

Contest Line-Up for those Competing

  • Cosplay Contest Line Up begins at 3:15pm on Sunday. If you feel that you’d like to speak with the cosplay directors, practice, or clarify anything with us, I encourage you to come in as soon as you can.
  • Last call for Cosplay Contest Line Up is 3:45pm on Sunday. At that time, we’ll be lining everyone up and reviewing the rules while seating begins. We close at this time because we want to make sure contestant numbers match their info sheets (you don’t want to miss out on a prize!) If you’re running late for any reason, please send a representative for you to the line-up so that you will still get your number.
  • Cosplay Contest Participants Only.  Please do not bring friends along with you unless they are your handler for your entry.

Please listen carefully to the announcements on stage while back stage so you get your cue. The key to a smooth show is cooperation.

Contest Rules & Regulations

  • Drink more water! Your health is our main concern first and foremost.  Please make sure you have eaten something hardy and please make sure to take advantage of the water stations.
  • Please make sure your costume covers all of your bits to street legal standards regardless of gender. If your costume is deemed inappropriate, we’ll have to ask you to leave the competition. If you’re worried about this rule, email the Head of Cosplay a picture of the character in advance.
  • Wings, large props, or large costumes are just fine, but please make a note of this in your entry form! Be sure to have an handler with you if you have trouble walking, or are worried that your costume may be damaged by the crowd. We have no limit on the size of costumes or props for the contest, but simply ask that you be safe and aware while on stage and let us know.
  • No acrobatics or jumping off of the stage.
  • Everything that comes with you on stage MUST come back off with you. For this reason, please do not bring confetti, liquid, messy substances, glitter, or anything else that cannot be picked up by you easy at the end of your entry. Clean up after yourself quickly to make way for the next entry.

Walk-Ons

  • Time limit on walk-ons will be 30 seconds each.  Please make full use of your time on stage, practicing in advance will give you a good feel for this.  This is your chance for you to show off your hard work to not only the judges but the fellow con-goers.
  • When you walk onto the stage, please walk to the center of the stage and STRIKE A POSE. Don’t go too fast as it won’t leave time for the judges to take the costume in and for photographers to get pictures. Stop, do a few poses and hold them, and then you can walk off.

Kitty Stryker, Head of Cosplay, has final say. She’s da’ baws.
